In THE EUROPEAN UNION AND THE U.S.A.: TWO COMPLEMENTARY VERSIONS OF WESTERN
“EMPIRES”， Vittorio Hösle discussed why he believes that United States and European union could be the imperial roles in the 21st century. The two are culturally and religiously closer and related to each other for multiple reason. For example, many immigrants of United States come from Europe, United States has ever been the colony of Britain. The author believes that the basic Western principles of liberalism and democracy that European union and American share would be the ground on which the western empires could thrive. Europe is one of the earliest civilized regions. The relations between southern Europe and West Asia and North Africa are much closer in history than those in northern Europe. The Roman Empire disintegrated in 476 AD. From then on, Europe did not reunify completely because of religion, ethnicity, and especially language reason. However, Europeans have always realized that the managerial benefits of small, scattered countries, but it also realize that it lacks the cultural, political, economic security security. The concept of “European integration” was put forward very early. The dream of revitalizing the Roman Empire runs through the European history.
